The Whigs played the SXSW Spin day party at one of the best places to see a show in Austin, Stubbs BBQ. Mainly because you can get yourself some brisket, hang out outside, and see a rock show at the same time. These guys sounded incredible! Such a big sound for a trio, and a drummer that hits like a bastard! Their album, Mission Control was one of my favorite records of last year and seeing them do it live re-affirmed it for me. Going to Austin, TX for the South by Southwest is never a dull moment. I’ve been a Thunderlip fan for a while now but this was the first time I got to see them live and they were the furthest from a disappointment as could be. It’s nearly impossible to be when you don a cape and spotlight codpiece. What I love most about the the one picture is the sheer intensity in which the guy in the crowd is rocking out! And from what I remember it wasn’t even a heavy part of the song. Booze will do that to you kids. Who thought from reading this site you’d be entertained AND learn something? The Republic Tigers played a set at loft just off 6th street. I remember the room being extremely warm because the place’s AC broke but the stage lighting was very cool and I was able to grab these.
